Ceramic Tile Trends in 2025

When we think of decorating trends, we may think of what is hot and popular at the moment, but when it comes to big investments such as tile, trends tend to last longer than a season or two. At a minimum, they grow and develop over time and can often be reworked or tweaked to incorporate changes in market trends but also in your own personal taste, style, and life stage.

Ongoing Popularity

With that in mind, ceramic tile has long been a popular choice for stain-resistant, easy-to-maintain flooring in high-traffic areas where water and wet messes are common: kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, and laundry rooms. Now, however, with the variety of textures, designs, and colours, ceramic tiles can be used anywhere throughout your home. There is, in fact, a trend of using walnut and espresso toned tiles in places where decorators may have once used wood, such as flooring and wall panelling.

Wood Pairing

Speaking of wood, ceramic tile trends now see hardwood and tile paired together. While it is not new to see these two materials laid side by side, more fluid and organic transitions are now happening. Therefore, instead of having a defined beginning and end to the tile and hard wood, the two almost spill into one another. Common examples are hexagonal ceramic tiles patterning out into the wood and creating a unique, almost puzzle piece shape where it meets the wood and the inclusion of occasional tiles after the transition to wood occurs.

Patterning

This leads to patterning. Checkerboard patterning of two colours is still a ceramic tile trend, but the pattern has been brought to the quarter century by the combination of bright colours, tile style, size, and material. Hardwood or laminate flooring is often found incorporated in these styles too, where it is used to define squares of tiles or turn them into large lozenges.

Chevron Tiles

Another fun interplay of wood and ceramic tile trends is lying rectangular, wood-grained tiles in a chevron pattern either as a defined space such as an entry way or throughout an open concept home. With the variety of textures and colours of ceramic tile available, as well as the option of adding in-floor heating, ceramic tile trends are seeing tile flooring in any room of the house, even bedrooms. While unconventional, a tiled bedroom is easy to clean and does not trap dust, hair, or allergens. Plus, choosing ceramic tile in the bedroom opens a world of decorating possibilities.
